Water Filter
I know that many people around the world have issues with water filtration, water sanitation and obtaining water. I also know that people in Africa tend to have a harder time with water because the weather often hot. That is why I chose to help people in Togo, Africa filter water for their own use. My grandmother joined the Peace Corps and is stationed in Togo, Africa. She reports back to us at least once a month talking about the weather and how she has to pay a girl to walk miles to obtain water that is not very clean. I want to help a village filter water to make sure they get the cleanest water possible, which will prevent parasites and disease. The filtration system will be placed near a water source that will pump the water into a large container that is about six feet tall and five feet wide. As the water comes in through the top, it will go through a series of filters. The clean water will go into another container, underground, that will store it until someone in the village needs it. There will be a faucet of some sort that will be connected to the water storage unit, and when a villager needs it, all they have to do is turn the faucet on. Although, there is a portable water filter that can be made out of outside materials, those designs do not account for a village full of people. I have designed a larger filter that can filter large amounts of water for more people. In prototype stage, the filter will only cost about $25, but in full scale it may cost between $500 or $1000.
