Proverbs are pieces of advise for people to take into account. For example, "Two wrongs don't make a right" or "Better late than never." In Spanish class, we had to choose a proverb and relate it to an event in our lives where we were taught this life lesson. My proverb was "Obras son amores y no buenas razones" ("Actions are love and good reasons aren't"). This proverb basically means "Actions speak louder than words." I related this proverb to a moment in my life where my actions spoke louder than my words. When I was five years old, my brother tried to go into my room and I told him to stop. After he didn't listen, I started pulling his arm and I accidentally dislocated his elbow. I saw what my actions resulted in and I felt bad for hurting my brother. I was nicer to him afterwards and allowed my little brother into my room because I didn't like that I injured him. I wrote this story in basic English sentences, then translated it to Spanish. We had to connect our proverbs to the paintings we were creating in art. The painting were self-portraits that were painted in the style of a cartoon with acrylic paint. We based our portraits off of the Dia De Los Muertos face paint. I connected my proverb to my painting by having my mouth sealed closed because I wanted to portray that actions speak louder than words. As a team, we hosted a mini exhibition for Spanish and Art in the style of a Dia De Los Muertos festival. We displayed our art pieces and proverbs during the exhibition while explaining our proverb to family members.
