Exhibition 2015 was about art and movements throughout the decades, starting from the 1900s and going up to the 2010s. Students were assigned to a group of three where we chose between three different roles: builder, writer, and artist. My group chose the 1980s to focus on, which was an important time during the LGBT rights movement. In art class, we had to recreate one piece of art that was from our decade and related to our topic.
"Heart" - Keith HaringMy group chose "Heart" by artist Keith Haring to recreate because he was a prominent artist during the 1980s. He was a gay man who openly expressed is sexual orientation through his artwork. This piece (pictured left) is meant to represent the act of same love and being able to be open about who you love.

"Ignorance = Fear, Silence = Death" - Keith HaringKeith Haring also painted about AIDS which affected him during the 80s. The AIDS epidemic was very serious during the 1980s, so my group chose to paint a second, smaller art piece. We thought both of these paintings were important to show during the exhibition because the LGBT rights movement and AIDS epidemic were two very important topics.
