Crayfish React to Colored Lights
Purpose
The purpose of this experiment was to see how the crayfish reacted to different types of colored light. We chose a purple light, a red light and a green light to test on the crayfish.
Procedure
We covered the tank in different colored plastic wrap according to the light we wanted. Then we used a flashlight to shine through the plastic and create colored light to see how the crayfish would react.
Observations
Purple Light
Red Light
Green Light
Conclusion
The results were very different in each test and for each crayfish. To conclude, the results vary based on the type of crayfish and how they behave, but the light does affect them in different ways.

Procedure
We covered the tank in different colored plastic wrap according to the light we wanted. Then we used a flashlight to shine through the plastic and create colored light to see how the crayfish would react.
Observations
Purple Light
- Crayfish #1 moves away from light and goes to darker areas
- Crayfish #2 ignores the light (distracted by the bubbles from bubbler)
- Crayfish #3 goes toward the light
Red Light
- Crayfish #2 runs away from light to darker areas
- Crayfish #3 ignores light
- Crayfish #1 hides in the PVC
Green Light
- Crayfish #3 moves away from light
- Crayfish #2 didn’t like the light and moved away
- Crayfish #1 hides in the PVC pipe
Conclusion
The results were very different in each test and for each crayfish. To conclude, the results vary based on the type of crayfish and how they behave, but the light does affect them in different ways.
